We all remember those great moments in life where a smile immediately illuminates across our face. The disappointing part in that matter is when the smile is washed away like waves on a shore because that moment has come to an end. A brilliant writer by the name of Dr. Seuss once wrote, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Just because that great feeling has left us does not mean that we should cry because it is over. We should smile for the reason that we had the opportunity to live out that great experience. Sure we may never again live out that one great moment, but we can always remember how sensational it was.
Dr. Seuss' quote for example applies to the high school experience, something every teenager must go through. We have spent four years surrounded by people who come to school for the same reasons: to be educated, to socialize, to gain knowledge, to better ourselves, and even to cause trouble. Some students even attend school because they are forced to. Although pretty much every waking day we are forced to get up in the morning and come to that one same place, we have all at once said, " I wish I could just be a senior already and graduate so I can get out of here." We all say this now, but at one point in our lives we will regret it because after high school is when reality actually checks in and it can be a scary feeling. Most people do not realize that after high school we become more independent and the mistakes we make may have a greater impact upon us than they would have had before. High school can be annoying at times, but some of our most memorable events happen within our high school. Even my oldest sister has told me countless times that she wishes she could be in high school again because the memories are unforgetable.
Just think about all of the great moments that have been experienced in high school. Now imagine the day where it is finally coming to an end: graduation day. Being dressed in that cap and gown and recieving that one thing that we have worked for every year: our high school diploma. All of these feelings will bundle up inside and most likey cause tears. A smile will shine because of accomplishment, but tears will flow because of the great memories that have been experienced. Just remember what Dr. Seuss once wrote, " Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Memories are something we should smile about, not cry because they ended.
This quote and post was overall exceptional Jenny. I totally agree with you and Dr. Seuss we shouldn't be sad that something is over we should be glad and grateful that we even got a chance to experience it. Most of us do try to rush high school but when the reality settles in that we're really going to be on our own once graduation day comes it's scary but we can't be sad that it is over we have to be glad that we even got to experience it. Great job Jenny :) !
ReplyDeleteI dont know about other people but I am terrified of becoming a senior. I know it goes by so quick and by the end you are leaving you have ever learned and the people who were there with you on the ride with you. I know that when that last day of high school comes I am going to be cosumed with sadness and complete fear of what comes next. This is where we stop being boys and girls but men and women. We are own and yeah we can ask for help but nobody is their watching your every move anymore. No one is telling you , you can't wear that shirt here or you can't say those things.Wow , your post made me think of that scary moment hopefully is doesn't come as fast I think.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I really loved your post, it was outstanding. I completely understood the point you were making, we should not cry over our memories, we should celebrate them. I really related to the conflict of graduating from high school and instead of being distressed because we must leave friends and family to make something of ourselves, we should be pleased that we had all those great experiences. I can honestly say that this post was amazing, and truly showed your beautiful and insightful writing techniques and ideas.
ReplyDeleteI've always love this quote and Dr. Seuss :) This is a beautiful post, one that i can relate to quite easily, especially since our last year of high school is just around the corner. We've all had experiences that have made us utterly happy, giving us a feeling we never want to lose. But the truth is that not everything can last forever, and knowing that, we should all cherish the great moments life gives us. Great post Jenny :)
ReplyDeleteYou picked another good quote with someone that most people are familiar with, go Jenny ^^ The timing of your post couldn't be anymore relevant, since we're experiencing a steady departure from adolescence. Finding joy in the journey is more important than crying about its finale. Your conclusion utilizes this quote to it's fullest. Once we graduate it would be nice to reflect on how far we've come and see it as the beginning rather then the end. I also like how you in cooperate a use of similes and metaphors to add to description to your post!
ReplyDeleteI love the quote you used. Many people shy away from something, or speed through things too fast, and dont take the time to enjoy them. Having a happy experience is worth the feeling after. Life will hand you a mixture of great experiences and horrible one all on the same platter, but taking the time to enjoy the good ones is worthwhile and shouldn't be taken for granted. I loved your post, it was beautifully written, and your examples really enhance the idea. (:
ReplyDeletejenny well as highschool comes to the end of our junior year the relevance to your quote is perfect because of the maturity that has been achieved through all the experiences that we have had no matter what feelings we have felt.those things make us who we are.Great Job Jenny your posts get better and better.
ReplyDeleteHey jenny i love this quote becauase its completely true. we never really think about the good times as much as the bad times as much as we should. We should be happy we got to experience things because not everyone gets the chance to experience all the things we do.
ReplyDeleteJenny this is great! Sometimes we are so caught up in the moment of how we feel being so fed up with homework and stuff like that that we forget that these are one of the easiest times of our lives. When we have to pay bills and go to a job and support ourselves, we'll should be able to look back and smile and be happy with what we made of our highschool years. Because really they make us who we are in the future.
